Don't forget to support YOU!

Do you have a dream staff?
Are they professional, informative and most importantly SUPPORTIVE of you, THE DOCTOR.

If not, why?

How can you believe in your growth if you don't have a team cheering you on!

One way I support my own doc is with "Blair Epis".
(Short uplifting quotes or cheerful reminders, that are waiting for him first thing in the morning.)

Two years of "Blair Epis" and I have yet to run out of ideas...

Because I SUPPORT my doctor and want the absolute success for his office!!
I would highly encourage you to seek your dream team if you don't currently have it.

I believe in you,
Believe in you too!!

Great things happen when you surround yourself with great people!

It's very easy to get discouraged: the medical field brainwashing the world.... and the world blindly accepting it. Your patients not seeing the 'truth', not signing a care plan, not getting enough (or any) new patients, etc etc etc! However, if you focus only on the negative then what are you going to attract into your life (and your practice!!).

Success takes WORK! And if you are willing to sow, water, trim, crop, bake and above and beyond the seeds of success- you will reap!

I used to work for a chiropractor who had at one time a very busy office. The days prior to officially opening his doors he walked door to door throughout the community [sounds a bit like these other door to door guys I know.... ] and merely introduced himself to his neighbors. He constantly was attending events to do screenings, was giving bi-monthly dinner talks, weekly wellness talks in his office as well as multi-weekly wellness talks to businesses in the community, giving talks at community churches, he hardcore encouraged, educated and motivated the people who came into his office to refer their friends, family, coworkers, etc! His office EXPLODED with patients, because the community knew him - they knew his face, they knew him as both an individual and as a doctor. He wasn't just a sign they passed on the street, or a number in the phone book. He was very successful because he was willing to work.

And while the success reaped for a time after he stopped sowing as much; eventually his practice that was at one time 300patients a week, dwindled to where he was lucky to see 50 patients a week, with 1 or 2 new patients coming in a month. (I know some are thinking what they would give to have 50 patients a week, but bear with me!)

Our 'busy' days at work were days we had 30 patients. The slow days - which were quickly becoming the majority- he was seeing 7...5...2, sometimes none. His immediate response was to get upset; to get discouraged! And of course, this is natural - it's only human! Yet what I found so ironic was instead of seeing that his success was dwindling because there was no form of sowing going on whatsoever (whether with him or a marketer) - he would run to his office and watch motivating videos. I love that he was trying to motivate himself: that's a WONDERFUL way to respond and deal with discouragement: but, motivation only works if you act on it... and merely watching videos, isn't g

This is not a philosophy; other than a personal one.
This is not principle 1, nor 10, nor any of the the 33.
But it is something that is essential for any and EVERY chiropractor, chiropractic student, and chiropractic supporter to hear:

Support.

Support, encourage, and uplift each other. In a world that is in such desperate need for uplift and encouragement, where there is such discouragement, where media controls our minds, and pills fill our bodies. Support each other knowing that you are offering not just an alternative, but a solution. Whether you're a wellness based doc, or a PI only pain doc - you're still doing one thing: adjusting. Adjusting someone, so that whether you call it their innate or just merely their body doing what it needs to be doing: they can get better, without having to have surgery, without having to swallow pills, or without having to get injections.

While there's always going to be arguments on what modalities work best; or if any modalities should be used other than adjustments; or what part of the body/extremities  should be adjusted; or if only the upper cervical spine should be adjusted; or whether principled doc's hold the truth and non-principled's are merely therapists; or if principled doc's are quacky and non-principled doc's are medically in-tune with society: whatever the differences', whatever the arguments may be: you're still a chiropractor (or a chiropractic student, or a chiropractic supporter), and it's essential that instead of bickering and creating dispair in your field: that you can agree to disagree...

And that you can support each other.

Because with support, we will get a hell-of-a-lot further, and that means we'll be helping a hell of a lot more people in this world - and isn't that what chiropractic is all about? Reaching the masses and HELPING them?

Seriously folks; The doctor The chiropractor that 'began the change' in my life? He's a hardcore 'mixer'. He went to a school highly known for their 'medical training', he never once brought up philosophy, nor does he really advocate for wellness visits. In fact I'm sure (though he never actually said such) he probably thinks chiropractic philosophy is quacky. But he helped me realize there was more to life than just going with what I've been brainwashed to think: He taught me to question diagnosis, to question dis-ease, to think for myself, and to trust my body - and that was enough to make me crave true chiropracTIC. And I will forever be grateful to him for what he helped lead me to... (and for what it's worth, I've been to a hell of a lot of chiropractors/been adjusted by many chiropractor's in my time, and he's BY FAR without a doubt the best dang adjuster I've ever had! )

How do you get to Carnegie Hall?

A Lucky Break....

OH WAIT! No,
that's not it,
is it?

How's the old saying go?

"Practice, Practice, PRACTICE!"

If you're sitting in your office right now,
twiddling your thumbs,
wishing you had a patient,
 just one,
ONE!
Who would walk through those doors,
and 'get it',
and tell all their friends, family,
their coworkers,
church goers,
every
single
person
they know...
(Because truly, succeed with 1, get them to convince their friends? And that's the best damn marketing plan you'll ever have - far beyond anything you pay for, anyONE you pay TO, etc).

And yet you're just sitting there...
waiting OH SO DESPERATELY.
That's far from practicing!

Get OUT.
Talk The 'TIC!
Educate your community.
Tell EVERYONE what you do - without fear or apprehension that they think you will be selling them...
Because after all, you're not selling anything but their bodies ability to restore and heal.

PRACTICE, DOC!
Get off your ASS, and PRACTICE!

Quack or Laugh?

There's 'scare' tactics and then there's humor with truths... Quite the difference!
I am a firm believer that scaring patient/practice member into care is not an ethical practice, and rather one should believe in the power of Chiropractic Education, Wellness Training, an excellent Staff (Should you have one) and a being a great DC - to keep your patients coming back... The more informed, the better the odds they are going to stick around....

Staff Education

Any 'consulting' firm you join, will try and tell you the importance of patient education - but allow me to explain the often looked - obvious necessary - of staff education.

I just spent a week 2700 miles across the country being trained and getting my learn on so that I can better help the doctor I personally work for - as an employee extraordinaire(I kid, but truly that's the type of staff he deserves... as does any DC).

And whilst at said learning week - I learned the invaluable value of having a staff who 'gets' chiropractic, who 'believes' in chiropractic, and who will support YOU, the DOC! Because no matter how much you spend on training your staff - no matter how much patient education information you provide them with, no matter how much formal education they may have under their belt, how professionally pleasing the eye they may seem to the consumer, etc etc etc - if they don't 'get it', if they don't know the 'BIG IDEA' there's no way they can ever truly sell a consumer on the true, longevitive value of Chiropractic, and the true  longevitive  value of YOU, THE DOC.

It may seem obvious doc's, but amongst all that patient education - are you forgetting to train the people who are there to speak that information?

Just a thought.
